As part of the City of Sydney’s Visiting Entrepreneur Program, TechSydney, StartCon, and Canva are hosting an intimate conversation with Marcus Segal and Crunchbase CEO Jager McConnell. Hear their war stories and lessons on scaling from their previous roles at Zynga & Salesforce, plus insights on investing and startups from current roles at Crunchbase & Upshift Capital.


Marcus Segal, General Partner Upshift Capital

Marcus Segal is a General Partner at Upshift Capital, a seed stage investment fund. Marcus has 17 years of experience working as strategist and operations executive in Silicon Valley. Segal spent over 7 years in total with Zynga serving in a number of roles including the SVP Global Operations, Chief Operating Officer [COO] of Game Studios, and COO of Business Operations. Marcus serves on the Board of Crowdfunder and is mentoring start-ups through Nomadic Mentors and Google Launchpad.


Jager McConnell, Crunchbase CEO

Jager McConnell is the CEO of Crunchbase, the leading platform used by millions of entrepreneurs and investors looking to discover innovative companies and the people behind them. Jager joined Crunchbase after it spun out from AOL, a move that was announced at TechCrunch Disrupt in 2015. Prior to joining Crunchbase, Jager spent 11 years at Salesforce in various roles across sales, marketing, and product development. In his last role at Salesforce, Jager was VP of Product in the Sales Cloud, where he oversaw the core salesforce automation product line.
